Cognitive Engineering Technology, LLC, (Cogent) is a small woman-owned business specializing in providing advanced cognitive human factors services to customers in any area of industry or government where having the right information at the right time organized in the right way is critical to successful, effective operations. Laura Strater, an acknowledged leader in the areas of situation awareness, decision-making and human factors, established Cognitive Engineering Technology, LLC, in 2015 to provide the highest quality services to customers seeking advanced cognitive engineering solutions. Although the company is new, our principal researchers have many years of experience in a variety of domains, from all branches of the military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines) to other government entities (NASA, FAA) and commercial endeavors (power systems, oil and gas, driving/transportation). Cognitive Engineering Technology, LLC specializes in improving human interactions with advanced systems, and particularly in engineering improved processes and systems for interacting with the information needed to support dynamic, time-critical decisions. Our areas of expertise include conducting research to identify operator or user information requirements and functional requirements, designing advanced user interfaces that support improved performance and decision making, defining cognitive models to mimic human decision processes and outcomes, developing enhanced, scenario-based cognitive skills training programs to build operator mental models with innovative techniques that leverage game theory and the latest training research, experimental studies for evaluation or validation using a mixture of quantitative and qualitative research approaches, and providing support to customers on setting up an advanced human factors program, along with customized client training on these methodologies.
